Cannabis

What is the difference between Indica and Sativa?

Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa are two different subspecies of the genus Cannabis. The general perception is that Indica strains primarily provide a body high, while Sativa strains give mainly a cerebral head high however, the different effects people feel from cannabis are likely more accurately attributed to cannabinoids and terpenes, compounds found in the cannabis plant, rather than from different strains.

What is THC?

THC is the acronym for Tetrahydrocannabinol which is a cannabinoid that exists in cannabis. It is the main psychoactive compound that is responsible for the “high” feeling experienced after consumption.

What is CBD?

CBD is the acronym for Cannabidiol which is a phytocannabinoid. It is one of the 113 identified cannabinoids in the cannabis plant and accounts for up to 40% of the plant’s extract. Unlike THC, which is the major active ingredient in cannabis, CBD is not psychoactive.

What Are Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids (THC & CBD among others) are the chemical compounds secreted by the cannabis flower. The effects felt from cannabinoids are from an imitation of compounds our bodies naturally produce, called “endocannabinoids”. The Endocannabinoid system in the human body is largely comprised of endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes that are believed to help regulate a variety of functions in humans including sleep, mood, memory, appetite, reproduction, and pain sensation.

What are Terpenes?

Secreted in the same glands that produce cannabinoids like THC and CBD, terpenes are aromatic oils that colour cannabis varieties with distinctive flavours like citrus, berry, mint and pine. Not unlike other strong-smelling plants and flowers, the development of terpenes in cannabis began for adaptive purposes: to repel predators and lure pollinators. There are many factors that influence a plant’s development of terpenes, including climate, weather, age and maturation, fertilizers, soil type, and even the time of day. Terpenes may play a key role in differentiating the effects of various cannabis strains, but more research is needed.

What is Vaping?

The process of vaping cannabis involves heating cannabis flower or concentrates to a temperature that turns the active compounds (cannabinoids and terpenes) into vapour. Most vaporization devices are engineered to heat cannabis products just below the point of combustion, which ranges between 180 to 190 Celsius.

Are Edibles Sativa or Indica?

Edibles could be Sativa, Indica, or a hybrid of both.
